Alongside
Website Privacy Notice
Last reviewed: 30 June 2026 (working draft, formal publication date set on launch) · Version 2026-06
1. Who we are (the controller)
Alongside is a service that introduces older people to a friendly local nearby for real-world companionship: a walk, a coffee, a conversation. It is not a care service.
The data controller for this website is Ian Price (sole trader) trading as “Alongside”. On incorporation, Alongside Ltd will take over as controller; you will be given notice where required, and the registered company name, number, and office address will be added here once Alongside Ltd is incorporated. Matters arising before incorporation remain the responsibility of Ian Price (sole trader).
Contact for privacy questions, unsubscribe, or to be erased: hello@alongsidehello.com. A postal correspondence address is available on request via that email, and will be published here on incorporation.
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer. At this scale, and for a simple email waitlist, a statutory DPO is not required. We will register with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and add our registration number here as required.
2. What we collect, and nothing more
When you join the waitlist on this website, we collect only the following. We do not ask for, or store, your name, your address, your phone number, your date of birth, or any health or special-category information.
That is the complete list. The website loads no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking cookies, and sets nothing on your device for tracking. See our Cookie & Tracking Statement.
3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your details for one purpose only: to email you about Alongside a warm welcome note confirming you’re on the list, and to keep you posted, including when Alongside reaches your area. We do not use them for anything else.
Our lawful basis under UK GDPR is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You give that consent by ticking the box next to the sign-up form before you join, having read the notice and this page. You can withdraw that consent at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it (see section 6). Withdrawing your consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
4. Who can see it
We never sell your data, and we never share it for advertising. We do not share your details with any other organisation to use for their own purposes.
A small number of trusted service providers process the data on our behalf and on our instructions only, purely to run the waitlist:
- Supabase: securely stores the waitlist (the email, town, audience flag, and consent record). The waitlist lives in its own database, kept completely separate from the Alongside app’s data.
- Resend: sends our emails to you on our behalf (the welcome email, and any later update about Alongside). Your email address is shared with Resend only so the message can be delivered.
- Vercel: hosts this website.
Each provider acts under a data-processing agreement. Where a provider stores data outside the UK, we rely on UK ‘adequacy’ or appropriate safeguards (such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum).
5. How long we keep it
We keep your details only as long as we need them for the waitlist:
- Until Alongside launches in your area, or until you unsubscribe, whichever comes first.
- We aim to keep your details for no longer than 24 months. We review the waitlist periodically; if your details are still on the list at that point, we will either delete them or email you to re-confirm you still want to hear from us, and delete them if you don’t reply.
When you unsubscribe, we immediately stop emailing you and remove your email address from our records. We keep a minimal record (the town you typed, whether the signup was for a loved one, and the date you signed up), marked as unsubscribed so the link can’t be re-used, but we no longer hold your email address or any way to contact you. If you’d like that record deleted in full, email us at hello@alongsidehello.com and we’ll erase it completely.
6. Your rights, and how to unsubscribe
You can unsubscribe at any time in two ways:
- Click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send you; this removes you straight away.
- Or email us at hello@alongsidehello.com and we’ll remove you.
Under UK data-protection law you also have the right to access the data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to our use of it, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello@alongsidehello.com. We’ll respond within one calendar month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.
7. Keeping your data safe
The waitlist is stored in a secured database with strict access controls: the website can add a signup but cannot read the list back, and reading or changing entries is limited to privileged server-side access. We hold no more than we need, and the waitlist is kept entirely separate from the Alongside app.
8. Changes to this notice
We’ll update this page if our handling of your details changes, and update the “Last reviewed” date at the top. Governing law: England & Wales.
